Still run by the founding family, London Button Company has a rich 34 year history.
1981
Established by the late John Race in 1981 as London Button & Belt, the company originally provided covered buttons to Margaret, John’s wife. As a dressmaker in the London suburbs Margaret wanted handmade covered buttons on demand! The finished quality attracted attention, whilst the number of requests for buttons quickly grew and soon the company became the provider of couture covered buttons, belts and buckles to fashion houses in London, Milan and Moscow.
2011
In 2011 the company and its many loyal customers were saddened by John’s death. However, staying true to the original focus of providing the highest quality buttons, the company continues under the new leadership of John’s step-daughter, Louise, with the new identity – London Button Company.
2014
In 2014 the company was granted a patent for the Venice® button expanding its range even further. The beauty of our covered buttons can now be seen in the most spectacular of locations – from costumes on popular television programmes, sung-out in Opera at Edinburgh’s Royal Conservatoire and on collections of many international fashion designers.
